Photograph of an elder Machigenga (Machiguenga) tribe man smiling while sitting with a young boy and girl. The Machigenga are naturally both friendly and curious. However, they are also very camera-shy. The way that photographer Chuck Clark was able to capture images of these indigenous Amazonians in a relaxed and natural pose, was that they did not know that they were being photographed. Chuck Clark innovated an ingenious way of making it appear that he was photographing another subject; he used a false lens which he pointed in the opposite direction, while the real lens was hidden in a lens hood and pointed at the subjects, in this case the native Amazonians seen in the above picture. |
