Txemã, the primary cacique (chief) of the Matis tribe, with face painted red with dye from urucum (Bixa orellana) for the Ceremony of Queixada.  His smile shows the warmth and happiness of the Matis tribe.  The Matis spend much of their time smiling and laughing.  They are truly a cheerful people, free of many of the obligations and pressures that characterize Western societies and developed nations.
